Alonso: No Regrets over BAR Comments

Championship leader Fernando Alonso has not regrets after saying earlier this week that BAR and Ferrari were cheating

The Renault driver insisted he thought BAR, who got a two-race ban and will not be able to race in Spain this weekend, were right to be penalised.

"I don't regret anything I said. BAR has been punished for cheating," Alonso was quoted as saying by Spanish daily As. "The rules are the same for all and if someone goes against them they are risking being penalised. I agree with their exclusion."

Alonso, however, softened his words towards Ferrari, although he said the World Champions are not playing fair by ignoring their rivals' agreement to limit testing to 30 days.

"Everyone knows about Ferrari," he added. "There is an agreement between the rest of the teams and their behaviour is not sporting.

"When I talked about cheating, I didn't mean literally, but that their attitude of testing more than the rest is not fair play, it goes against the spirit of the sport."

The Spanish driver also said he was not worried his comments would have any future repercussion.

"My words have only had repercussion in Spain. I don't think they will influence my future, because I still have two years with Renault and in two years time I doubt anyone will remember what I said now."
