Alonso Laments First Corner Shunt

Spaniard Fernando Alonso lamented his bad luck after an incident at the first corner of the Hungarian Grand Prix cost him all chances of scoring points

The Renault driver made contact with the Toyota of Ralf Schumacher at the start of the race, damaging and then losing his front wing.

Alonso was forced to pit, and with the Hungarian circuit proving almost impossible to overtake, the Championship leader was unable to climb back into the points.

Alonso saw his lead cut to a still comfortable 26 with six races remaining after McLaren rival Kimi Raikkonen eased to victory.

"All our chances of scoring were over at the first corner when I lost my front wing," Alonso told Spanish network Telecinco after the race. "I was pretty unlucky in that incident.

"The starts are always difficult with Ralf because he always surprises you with all the moves he makes, but we knew the start would be complicated and these things can happen.

"Sometimes it happens to me and sometimes it happens to Kimi, and not only to Kimi, as people are always saying about this season."

Alonso admitted that after the incident his main goal was to finish as high as possible to secure a good position in qualifying for the Turkish Grand Prix.

"After the incident I think I damaged some wings and a bit of the floor of the car and the laptimes were not good at all," he added.

"I decided to cruise and run with low revs because I knew the position would be important for qualifying in Turkey, so finishing 11th is better than last."
