Alonso: Easiest Win of the Season
World Champion Fernando Alonso believes his victory in the Chinese Grand Prix that helped Renault secure the Constructors' World Championship was his easiest win of the season
The Spaniard led from the start and was easily able to control his advantage over the field - despite seeing his lead wiped away twice by Safety Car periods.
"Apart from some oversteer (in the first stint) the car was perfect," he said. "We only showed our potential in qualifying, putting all the power in the engine and a little bit in the first stint, and after that we just ran with very low revs. Kimi was too far behind and I think that was the easiest race of the year, probably."
Speaking about the Constructors' title success, he said: "I think for the team it has been a fantastic season. We arrived at the last race with only two points to McLaren and we pushed a little bit the car on the chassis side and engine side to win the Constructors' World Championship - which was not crucial but quite important for the team for next year.
Alonso's Chinese Grand Prix success means he has ended the year with seven victories - the same number as Championship runner-up Kimi Raikkonen - although he believes he could have won more if needed.
"I think for us it was a good season all through the year. We won at the beginning all the races and had some steps in the engine and the car, but didn't take risks because the gap was far enough to keep the distance.
"We showed here that if we wanted to give a little bit more risk and beat McLaren then we could do it. I am a bit frustrated that I only won seven races because I think the car had the potential to win ten or 11 races."
