Scuderia Toro Rosso has confirmed that Spaniard Jaime Alguersuari will stay on at the team during the 2010 season

Alguersuari confirmed at Toro Rosso

The 19-year-old became the youngest driver to take part in a grand prix last year, when he replaced Frenchman Sebastien Bourdais from the Hungarian Grand Prix onwards.

Although it was expected Alguersuari would stay at Toro Rosso, the team had not confirmed it officially until today.

"Considering that he made his debut only halfway through 2009, at the Hungarian Grand Prix, with no prior testing, he did a good job, making steady progress throughout the second half of the year, with a mature approach considering he is still only nineteen years old," said team boss Franz Tost.

"This season, he will again face a steep learning curve, as all the circuits in the first part of the season will be new to him. Jaime's appointment also confirms our team's commitment to bringing on graduates of the Red Bull Young Driver Programme."

Today's announcement means Toro Rosso will retain the same driver line-up it had in 2009, with Alguersuari partnering Sebastien Buemi.

With Alguersuari confirmed for 2010, together with Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and Sauber's Pedro de la Rosa, Spain will have three drivers on the grid for the first time.
