Rubens Barrichello will have to take a five-place grid penalty for the Singapore Grand Prix after his Brawn GP team opted to change his gearbox.
The Brazilian's gearbox suffered torque-stress damage after his near-stall off the line in Belgium, and the team has conducted detailed analysis of it over the past few weeks.
Although the team stuck with the gearbox in Italy a fortnight ago as Barrichello took his second win of the season, it has been decided that the risk of a failure in Singapore is too much, so a new one will be fitted.
The five-place penalty could dent Barrichello's title challenge, as he bids to close in on the 14-point advantage that team-mate Jenson Button has in the championship standings.
