Mika Salo is tipped to leave Sauber at the end of the 2000 season to take a testing-only sabbatical with Toyota next year, before leading the Japanese car giant's entry into Formula 1 in 2002.
The Finn is contracted to Sauber until the end of 2001, but a mooted contract buy-out would see him sharing testing duties with the already-contracted Allan McNish.
With McNish also set to step up to a full-time drive in 2002 according to team insiders, Toyota has opted for experience in its driver line-up. Salo is 33-years-old, with McNish through the 30 barrier too.
