Status: Stopped
Here's our report from a superb qualifying battle. Remember to join us tomorrow for the race. We'll kick off our coverage shortly before the scheduled start time of 7.10pm UK time. See you then:
Canadian Grand Prix: Sebastian Vettel puts Ferrari on pole

Bottas keeps it short and sweet: "It's always annoying when it's so close and we're not ahead. Starting on the front row is good for this race."
Verstappen started his Canadian GP activities threatening/joking (a bit of both probably) he'd headbutt someone if he keeps being asked about his mistakes this season.

Now: "I'm very happy with this weekend so far, the car's been working really well. We're just missing top speed. To be third is great for us and in the race I think we can do a really good job."

Do you have the pace? "I think we have, and starting on the softer tyres is also a benefit here because it's quite slippery on the track."
Vettel says he was "a bit in trouble" after Friday practice but "I guess I woke up the right way" today.

"The car was incredible in qualifying, it just kept getting quicker. My final lap I had a small mistake otherwise I think there was a little bit more."

And something for the fans: "The hairpin is so cool, there are so many people, they are waving every lap!"
DTM racer and Sky Sports F1 pundit Paul di Resta is conducting the interviews on the start line. He's down there now waiting for Vettel to stop celebrating and get his crash helmet off.

Vettel: "Woohoo! I was running a bit out of juice at the end..."

Battery problem from Vettel, or just at his own limit?
Q3 result: 1 Vettel; 2 Bottas; 3 Verstappen; 4 Hamilton; 5 Raikkonen; 6 Ricciardo; 7 Hulkenberg; 8 Ocon; 9 Sainz; 10 Perez

Wow. Mercedes' chiefs look shellshocked in the garage. Stony faces from Mssrs Wolff and Lauda. Ferrari extremely happy in the red part of the pitlane though.
Ricciardo is only 0.352s off pole, but that's sixth behind Raikkonen.
Bottas can't beat Vettel, he stays second.
Verstappen grabs third from Hamilton.
Vettel shaves 0.012s off his provisional pole time, is that the top spot sealed?
Hamilton improves, but only to third behind Vettel and Bottas.
Ocon goes eighth ahead of Sainz, Perez is 10th.
The chequered flag is out – will Vettel secure pole, or is someone about to snatch it?
Raikkonen has a big wobble and runs wide exiting Turn 2, that's this lap ruined and he is now vulnerable to those behind!
The Renaults and Force Indias set off for their final runs - or only runs, in Force India's case.
Red Bull "need something special" to make up any more places, Horner tells Sky Sports F1. It should get worse (marginally) if Hamilton gets his act together on the next run.
Lead order after first runs: 1 Vettel; 2 Bottas +0.081s; 3 Raikkonen +0.319s; 4 Verstappen +0.320s; 5 Hamilton +0.451s; 6 Ricciardo +0.505s
Wow. Verstappen and Ricciardo were neck and neck with provisional pole after the second sector but lost 0.3s and 0.5s respectively in the final sector...
Ricciardo goes fifth, which becomes sixth as Verstappen takes fourth.

Hulkenberg and Sainz are fifth and sixth, Force India yet to run, Red Bulls about to begin their runs.
An eruption of cheers from the crowd on the outside of Turn 1 as Vettel moves to the top.
Vettel sneaks ahead of Bottas by 0.081s to take provisional pole on a 1m10.776s.
Very quick lap coming up from Vettel...
Raikkonen splits the Mercedes to go second, 0.238s down on Bottas.

Hamilton does a 1m11.227s, but Bottas smashes that by 0.370s with a 1m10.857s.

Bottas is quicker than Hamilton by 0.048s in the first sector of their opening runs, and half a tenth up after sector two.
Q3 is go, with the Mercedes first out.
And another unhappy driver – Stroll: "There was more lap time in it, I locked up at the last chicane when I was 0.25s up, but even if I would have nailed that corner we're missing six tenths to P16. That's tough to swallow."

Grosjean on his latest bit of bad luck: "That's pretty up there on the podium. I'm getting the bad luck for next season and maybe even 2021."
Replays show he was quite right to slam the "ridiculous" queue of cars slowing down – and positioned on different sides of the track – as he charged down the back straight at full speed.
Into Q3: 1 Ricciardo; 2 Verstappen; 3 Bottas; 4 Vettel; 5 Raikkonen; 6 Hamilton; 7 Hulkenberg; 8 Sainz; 9 Ocon; 10 Perez
