Summary

Status: Stopped

Quick handshake in the pits from the bosses - Arrivabene and Wolff.

Bottas: "We can [fight Ferrari]. We are there with both cars now, we are starting very close. The race here can be very crazy. We have a good starting point."
Vettel: "In the last segment in qualifying I knew I had the car that does what I want. The first lap I was really happy, maybe two tiny bits where it wasn't perfect. Then I locked up, it caught me by surprise for Turn 3. I tried to hang onto it, fortunately [the first lap] was enough."
Hamilton: "That was close. We did the best job we could. I think I lost a little bit in the final sector, but great lap from Sebastian. We're in the mix, and I'm going to try to give Sebastian a hard time tomorrow. "

Big celebrations for Vettel, while Mercedes must be pretty happy with second and third as Hamilton and Bottas pull up on the start/finish straight for their interviews.

Rest of the field: 11 Stroll; 12 Sirotkin; 13 Alonso; 14 Leclerc; 15 Magnussen; 16 Vandoorne; 17 Gasly; 18 Ericsson; 19 Hartley; 20 Grosjean
Q3 result: 1 Vettel; 2 Hamilton; 3 Bottas; 4 Ricciardo; 5 Verstappen; 6 Raikkonen; 7 Ocon; 8 Perez; 9 Hulkenberg; 10 Sainz
Ricciardo gets ahead of Verstappen for fourth with his final lap.
But a mistake at the start of the final sector costs Raikkonen hugely and he stays sixth!
Huge slide for Raikkonen at Turn 16!
Raikkonen does the best middle sector so far too...
Perez, Hulkenberg and Sainz stay put in eighth, ninth and 10th places.
Poor first sectors from Vettel and Verstappen, they're not improving right now.
Raikkonen does the best first sector of anyone so far, is he team-mate Vettel's big pole challenge now?
Hamilton is 0.179s shy of Vettel and stays second, and Bottas says third too.
Ocon doesn't improve and stays seventh.
Hamilton's middle sector is a personal best but not beating Vettel's.
The Force Indias are both improving - they have a shot at jumping Ricciardo and Raikkonen on current times.
Bottas's first sector isn't an improvement over his previous effort, but Hamilton is up on Vettel's provisional pole time there.

The Mercedes and Ocon set back off for their final runs with just over three minutes to go.
Raikkonen explains his near-miss with the wall: "I was on the kerb and I couldn't steer."
Ricciardo says he brushed the wall at Turn 15.
Scary moment for Raikkonen, who got his car too wide over the Turn 16 exit kerb and had to work very hard to avoid the wall.
Order after first laps: 1 Vettel; 2 Hamilton; 3 Bottas; 4 Verstappen; 5 Ricciardo; 6 Raikkonen; 7 Ocon; 8 Perez; 9 Hulkenberg; 10 Sainz
Raikkonen's first lap is nearly a second off Vettel's and he's only sixth.
Vettel is 0.342s quicker than Hamilton, though, and moves into first place.
Bottas deposes the Red Bulls to go quickest, then Hamilton beats him.
Verstappen sets the first benchmark with a 1m42.017s, Ricciardo's effort is four tenths slower.
