Here's our report from that session - we'll see you tomorrow for more live coverage from Formula 1 and the World Rally Championship:
Canadian GP FP2: Kimi Raikkonen fastest ahead of Lewis Hamilton
So here's the final top 10, including last-gasp Alonso: 1 Raikkonen, 2 Hamilton, 3 Vettel, 4 Bottas, 5 Verstappen, 6 Massa, 7 Alonso, 8 Ocon, 9 Kvyat, 10 Perez.
With nine laps on his set of ultra-soft tyres, Alonso jumps up to seventh at the chequered flag for McLaren.

The chequered flag is out - Raikkonen ends Friday on top in Canada.
Vettel is unhappy that Hamilton keeps "making mistakes" and "backing off" in front of him on this long run.

Perez tells Force India "it feels like the rear ride height is on the low side".
Wehrlein reports "I am getting a very long brake pedal".

Kvyat just about saves a big moment at Turn 6, when the Toro Rosso tries to swap ends on him.
Alonso has managed to get an ultra-soft run in after all, and he's up to 13th with a 1m14.631s - 1.6s off the pace.
Another spinner - this time we have Perez rejoining at Turn 2.
Top 10: 1 Raikkonen, 2 Hamilton, 3 Vettel, 4 Bottas, 5 Verstappen, 6 Massa, 7 Ocon, 8 Kvyat, 9 Perez, 10 Grosjean.

Everyone except the two broken Red Bulls and Vandoorne are on track for these final moments of FP2.

Christian Horner tells Sky Sports "it looks like we've lost an engine with Daniel" and that Verstappen's problem was gearbox related.
FP2 restarts with 13 minutes remaining.

We get a replay of Verstappen's car conking out in Turns 6/7, and an external camera shot shows smoke coming from the back of the Red Bull before he stopped.
Raikkonen reports that some photographers on the exit of Turn 2 who are not behind the barriers - "If we go off we will hit them," he says.
Red flag - Verstappen's car is in a very difficult position to recover.
Verstappen is coming to a halt between Turns 7 and 8. More reliability problems for Red Bull.
A lock up for Alonso into Turn 6, but unlike so many others he keeps the car pointing in a straight line.

Alonso improves again to a 1m15.1s, moving ahead of Stroll into 16th place. With this being a truncated session for Alonso after a late start, will we see an ultra-soft run from the McLaren? There might not be time with race preparation so important on a Friday afternoon.
"I locked the rears - I'm ok," says the Russian.
Another spinner - this time it's Kvyat at Turn 1.
Alonso climbs the order slightly, moving to 17th with a 1m15.593s, still on super-softs.
Alonso is on the board with a 1m15.7s, a tenth down on team-mate Vandoorne's best, although they were on super-softs and softs respectively.
We're not used to seeing so many drivers getting it wrong like we have today. Is it just a dirty track? Are the tyres not working for some reason? Or are the 2017 breed of F1 cars just difficult to drive around a tricky circuit like this?
Vettel spins at Turn 6!
Vandoorne pits after an ultimately unsuccessful attempt to get a qualifying simulation run completed, while Alonso is circulating on the super-softs to begin his FP2 programme.
That's a pretty dramatic one for Bottas, who lost the rear in Turn 1 and then bounced through some gravel and the grass before rejoining. Vettel was behind him, and he decided to cut across Turn 2 to avoid getting too close. The world championship leader also had a long look to his left at the spinning Mercedes as he drove past.
Another spinner at the first couple of corners - this time it's Bottas.
