Summary

Stroll tops times in FP2 from Albon, whose crash at Stowe brought out the red flags
Vettel struggles with loose pedals after missing FP1
Hulkenberg continues to learn Racing Point on F1 return after Perez tests positive for COVID-19
Status: Stopped
So that wraps it up for today, but be sure to return tomorrow morning ahead of FP3 which gets underway at 1100 BST. Cheers!

Given the nightmare Gasly had with his engine last time out in Hungary, he'll be hoping it is nothing too serious. That caps an eventful end to the session, which Stroll tops for Racing Point ahead of Albon who crashed out midway through.
Gasly: "Something strange happened with the engine."
The Williams driver lost control of the rear of his car on the exit of the corner and spun around in the gravel. Latifi manages to get going again but that dampens the end of his session somewhat.
What's gone on here? Latifi has spun on to the grass at Stowe.
The chequered flag is out for the end of FP2. Stroll tops the session from Albon.
Into the closing moments of FP2 and Vettel is still struggling in his Ferrari as he locks up at the chicane on some very worn soft tyres. Vettel is down in P18 for this session.

Albon has been released from the medical centre after being checked over. His crash was recorded at 20G at the point of impact, that's a heavy hit.

Norris gets in some pitstop practice but hits anti-stall when trying to get going again. He does, but almost goes straight into the path of Stroll who was also exiting the pits.

Into the final 15 minutes of FP2 and plenty of long runs underway. Nico Hulkenberg is producing a solid showing again with P7 for this session, which is pretty impressive considering he probably didn't know for certain he would be in the car 24 hours ago.
Leclerc gets his Ferrari power sliding out of the final corner, while on the very next lap locks up under braking. That car is proving a handful this afternoon.
Vettel might be glad he is finally out on the Silverstone circuit following his earlier mechanical problems but he is struggling to keep it on the track, as TV replays catch him putting two tyres on to the gravel for the second time in this stint.
Sainz says "tyre temperatures are sky high" over his McLaren team radio. Given the track temperature is 48.4 degrees that perhaps isn't so surprising. It's warm out there.

After a change of pedals Vettel is back out on track for Ferrari. After his FP1 issue, the German has got a lot of catching up to do already.

Meanwhile Albon's Red Bull car is returned to the back of the paddock following his crash and it looks like a long evening ahead for the mechanics to repair that RB16.
Gasly is one of only a few drivers to improve on their personal best following the red flag stoppage, as he moves up to P8 with a 1m27.997s.
Hamilton, one of the drivers still on the soft tyres, runs deep into Turn 6 and that wrecks his hopes of a lap time improvement. That's a theme of his session so far.
FP2 is back underway, with Bottas leading out a train of cars at pit exit. The Mercedes driver is still on the soft tyres, along with the majority of the rest of the drivers.
This stoppage has also effectively ended a lot of other drivers' qualifying sim runs, with long runs normally the plan for the final third of the session. It means Stroll remains fastest in FP2 for Racing Point ahead of Albon and Bottas.

Albon was on his second qualifying sim fast lap when he came off and that was a heavy hit with the barrier. The medical car has been deployed as part of the F1 protocols.
Albon reports he is OK over his team radio. TV replays show the Red Bull driver lose control at Stowe and he hits the barrier backwards.
Oh! Albon has hit the wall really hard! Red flag.
Vettel is stuck in the garage again as Ferrari confirms the team is changing the pedals in his car. Not a great day so far for the German.
Verstappen almost gets in a tangle with Grosjean, as the Red Bull driver has to completely back off with the Haas driver in the middle of the track. The Dutch driver demonstrates his frustration by waving his hands at Grosjean.
Here come the Mercedes pair on fresh soft tyres, will they show off their one lap pace or keep us guessing until tomorrow afternoon?
Leclerc slots into P3 for Ferrari with a 1m27.570s, two-tenths of a second off Stroll's leading effort.
Plenty of drivers running qualifying simulations so some quickfire improvements shake-up the timing screen. Stroll goes fastest with a 1m27.274s in the Racing Point.
Albon duly goes top for Red Bull with a 1m27.364s on the soft tyres.

Albon is one of the first drivers to come back out on track and he is on a fresh set of soft tyres so you'd expect quicker times are coming up.
Only the AlphaTauri pair are on track currently as the rest of the drivers digest their opening FP2 runs.
Vettel reports there is something loose in his cockpit over his team radio so duly returns to the pits and takes a look into the front of his cockpit to see what was causing the problem.
