Toyota WEC driver Stephane Sarrazin to contest ERC Tour of Corsica
Toyota World Endurance Championship driver Stephane Sarrazin will return to rallying to contest the European Rally Championship finale in Corsica next month
Sarrazin was a factory Subaru World Rally Championship driver from 2004-06 after a single-seater career that included a Formula 1 start with Minardi in 1999.
The Frenchman has continued to make sporadic rally starts alongside his sportscar campaigns in recent years, but his Corsica outing in a First Motorsport-run Ford Fiesta Regional Rally Car will be his first top-level rally of 2014. He will contest French event the Rally of Cevennes as a warm-up.
The car will carry backing from ORECA and the 8Star Motorsports sportscar squad that Sarrazin raced for in Grand-Am last year.
"I am very happy to come back to rally competition and to have the opportunity to take part in two of the most beautiful rally challenges," said Sarrazin.
"I want to thank Toyota Racing, which has given me a green light to compete there on top of the World Endurance Championship.
"I just want to enjoy it clearly, but I am also a competitor and I will be ambitious."
Sarrazin finished third in Corsica last year in another ERC one-off in a Mini fielded by the First team. He is also racing in Formula E with Venturi.
The Tour of Corsica, which concludes the 2014 ERC on November 6-8, has a new route this year, starting from Porto Vecchio in the southeast of the island.
The fifth Intercontinental Rally Challenge was the best yet, and it was Skoda UK driver Andreas Mikkelsen who emerged as champion from a tense five-way shootout at the season finale. Matt Beer reviews the season
