Meeke's car under investigation

Kris Meeke's Rally of Scotland-winning Peugeot 207 S2000 is under investigation for a possible technical infringement

The rally stewards met in Stirling this evening and results have been made provisional, with an asterisk placed alongside Meeke's first place. AUTOSPORT understands the area of the car under investigation is the front cross member, which is rumoured to be under weight.

A source within the event said: "The result for car #1 remains provisional and subject to the scrutineers checking an area of the car. It's unlikely that we will have a confirmed result for car #1 until Monday."

The part of the car under suspicion is to be sent away and checked. It is this process which is currently preventing Meeke's result from being finalised.

A Peugeot spokesman said: "We are trying to find out what has happened, there appears to be an issue with Kris's car. If there is a problem, we will consider an appeal."

Meeke won the event on the stages, leading home arch-rival Guy Wilks' Skoda Fabia S2000. If the Northern Irish driver is excluded from the Rally of Scotland results, it will not affect the Intercontinental Rally Challenge title he won at the penultimate round in Italy.
