Meeke praises Scottish organisers
Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion Kris Meeke has praised the decision by Rally of Scotland organisers to cut the route of tomorrow's Craigvinean stage due to the continued torrential rain in the area
The stage, which runs as SS3 and SS7, has been reduced from 20.49km to 17.34km, with the competitors advised of the change by a bulletin on Wednesday night.
All of the crews recced the stage again on Thursday afternoon to make fresh notes for the new section of road. A 600m link has been included to eliminate out a loop between junctions four and seven.
The bulletin said: "Due to the road condition between posts four and five, the stage route will be revised."
Meeke said: "That change has made the stage a lot better. Some of the holes on that section were three feet deep. It would be a big struggle for us, let alone the two-wheel-drive cars.
"The weather has made things difficult, but 75 per cent of the route is perfect. The cancelled section would have been slippery and exceptionally difficult."
Meeke's Peugeot co-driver Paul Nagle added: "That section was highly dangerous. This is the right decision."
