Gould: Prize drive was a lifeline
Rising British rally star Adam Gould says he had given up hope of sourcing the budget for a drive on the final round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge in Scotland before winning the BFGoodrich Drivers' Team seat
Gould had spent months trying to secure the budget for the Stirling-based event, and while he had gathered together some of the money, he was still short when he received the call from Marc van Dalen, Kronos Racing team principal to say he was in the seat. He wil partner this year's IRC champion Kris Meeke.
"I'm told I'll be testing the same day as Kris," said Gould, "so I'm hoping I'll be able to learn as much as possible from him. It's going to be a great opportunity for me to share a team with the current champion. Clearly, Kris is on top of his game at the moment, so it's great to be alongside the best driver.
"Before I got the call from Marc, we'd given up. We'd done just about everything humanly possible to get out on this event.
"There's such a buzz about the Rally of Scotland; it's new, it's got some awesome stages and it's going to be an awesome competition. For all of those reasons, I was desperate to be part of it.
"It was so disappointing to know we weren't going to be there, but to have landed this drive of all drives is just outstanding. To be honest, I still can't believe it after the weekend."
