ERC Romania: Bouffier leads from Delecour on Sibiu Rally
Bryan Bouffier leads Francois Delecour by just a tenth of a second after the opening loop of Sibiu Rally stages in Romania
Former World Rally Championship star Delecour's international comeback has been helped by Romanian backing, and he gave his local supporters plenty to cheer about as he won the first stage.
Factory Skoda driver Jan Kopecky was second to Delecour at that point, just two tenths adrift.
But the Czech's power steering misbehaved on the following Crint stage, costing Kopecky 10s.
Bouffier won that stage and stepped up to challenge Delecour. Initially the two S2000 Peugeot drivers were credited with a shared lead, before a timing correction put Bouffier 0.1s ahead going into the first service break.
The fifth Intercontinental Rally Challenge was the best yet, and it was Skoda UK driver Andreas Mikkelsen who emerged as champion from a tense five-way shootout at the season finale. Matt Beer reviews the season
