Next year's Intercontinental Rally Challenge will include a snow event for the first time, AUTOSPORT understands.
Although the IRC's 2013 calendar will not be finalised until October, AUTOSPORT has learned that a snow rally will kick off the schedule.
The remaining list of dates will include a more even balance of asphalt and gravel rallies, having featured a greater number of sealed-surface rounds in the past.
"It will be the first time that there will be rallies on all three surfaces in the IRC," said a source.
"The calendar will probably have 12 to 13 events but there will also be a better balance of gravel and asphalt rallies. There will also be some new types of cars too."
The new cars are believed to be the new-generation R5 machines, some of which could appear before the second half of the season.
Meanwhile, a number of IRC rounds will again be televised live in 2013. Eurosport and public free-to-air channel Czech national TV are broadcasting four stages of this weekend's Rally Zlin live.
