Zandvoort DTM: Jamie Green sure Mercedes can still win

Jamie Green believes that victory is still possible in Sunday's DTM race at Zandvoort, despite only qualifying sixth

The Mercedes driver was the best non-Audi driver in qualifying, but suffered after going off the circuit on the exit of the Marlborobocht on his first flying lap in Q3 and continuing through the gravel at the following Renaultbocht.

Green believes that without the dirt on his tyres compromising his next lap, he would have made it into Q4 and would have disrupted Audi's lock-out of the top five positions.

"On paper they [Audi] look very dominant, but without my off, I think I could have given them a run for their money," the Briton said.

"The qualifying looks very similar to the Nurburgring in that I'm sixth here and I was seventh there, but the car feels so much better here and I honestly think we stand a chance [of winning].

"It won't be easy to pass five Audis, but I think we'll have a good strategy in place. Speed-wise we're looking strong, and that was the case in practice on Friday as well. I think a lot will come down to how the first lap goes and were we end up in the shake-out."

Green currently lies second in the championship, 20 points adrift of his HWA team-mate Gary Paffett. He outqualified Paffett by two places.
