Winkelhock blames tyres
Norising DTM race one winner Jo Winkelhock has blamed his tyres for ruining any chance of challenging for a double victory on the famous circuit. The Opel driver dominated the first race of the day, to take a comfortable victory from Klaus Ludwig, but he was left in the shade in the day's wet-dry second heat when he could not find enough grip from his slicks.
"The second race was a big problem after the pit-stop because I had a problem with the tyres," he said. "We have tried so many different sets of tyres and they should be the same compound, but they are so different it is incredible. "In the second race I put on a new set at my pit stop and I was between two and three tenths a lap slower than I had been in the first race. Something was clearly wrong and, although you only lose a few tenths a lap, over a 44 lap race it all adds up. "But I am not too upset about it. I am happy that I have scored my first victory in the third race of the year and I am really looking forward to the rest of the season."
