Warm-up: Mercedes strikes back
Mercedes proved that Opel won't have things all its own way in the DTM finale at Hockenheim - especially if it's wet. Bernd Schneider was almost a second quicker than the fastest Opel of Manuel Reuter in damp and slippery conditions
Schneider lapped his CLK in 2m22.765s on his final tour of the 30-minute session, a tenth clear of Marcel Fassler's Mercedes. Fassler will attempt to usurp AMG team-mate Klaus Ludwig for third place in the championship standings this afternoon.
Reuter was third fastest with 2m23.646s, ahead of Opel colleagues Michael Bartels, Eric Helary, Stefano Modena and Jo Winkelhock. Uwe Alzen was only 10th quickest and suffered a gravelly off-track excusion at the first turn.
The weather forecast for this afternoon is mixed, so anything can happen when the DTM blasts off for one last time at 13:15 BST (14:15 local).
