Warm-up: Dumbreck spinning but quick
This morning's DTM warm-up went ahead in the same tricky conditions of yesterday's qualifying. The times point to an evenly-matched afternoon with no Mercedes in the top six. If no further rain falls, however, they won't be much of a pointer.
Peter Dumbreck of Opel was quickest with a time of 1m47.712s, yet still seemed to suffer from an infectious bout of spinning. It was an easy thing to do this morning, with the track still damp off-line after overnight drizzle, and Dumbreck swapped ends three times.
Bernd Schneider had a momentary lapse as he climbed the kerbs trying to bust past Jean Alesi in the stadium. He was rewarded with a spin, another chance to practice a pitstop and sixth-fastest time.
Organisers have made some changes to the first corner after Jean Alesi declared yesterday that the use of the run-off area as racetrack had become dangerous. They've installed some discouraging cones and left some tyres, landmine-style, hidden in the dirt just beyond the kerb. Laurent Aiello was the first to unearth one, when he lost control in this morning's session.
Aiello got third-best time behind Audi pole-sitter Mattias Ekstrom. Alain Menu was fourth and Timo Schneider fifth. Christijan Albers was only tenth-quickest.
The race starts at 1300 BST this afternoon (Sunday).
