Tomczyk quickest at Spielberg

Martin Tomczyk set the quickest time in the second free practice session for the DTM round at Spielberg, continuing the domination of the older-spec Audis at the former Austrian Grand Prix venue

Tomczyk's 1m25.660s lap was just 0.006s quicker than Miguel Molina's best effort as Audi machinery filled the top eight places.

Morning rain had subsided to the extent that a dry line was visible by the time the session began, although it took a while for the times to dip below the 1m27s barrier.

When they did, it was Ralf Schumacher who set the pace, the HWA Mercedes man holding the top spot until well beyond the one-hour mark.

He could not keep pace with the Audi onslaught, however, as Friday pace-setter Edoardo Mortara and his Rosberg team-mate Filipe Albuquerque knocked him back.

Both would eventually be deposed by first Abt driver Molina and then Tomczyk's Phoenix-run car, which would end up filling the top two places.

Two-time DTM champion Timo Scheider was the best driver of a newer-spec car in third for Abt while Mortara and Mattias Ekstrom (Abt) followed him.

Oliver Jarvis (Abt) and Albuquerque were next up, ahead of Schumacher - the best Mercedes runner - and his HWA team-mate Gary Paffett.

Less than 0.8s covered everyone down to Jamie Green (HWA) in 16th, while David Coulthard was the slowest of the 18 drivers, the Mucke Mercedes man going off at the Power Horse Kurve early on and completing only five laps.
