Tomczyk plays down title talk

The German, whose victory was not only the first for an old-spec Audi in the DTM, but also Phoenix Racing's first since 2000, had also been on the podium last time out at Zandvoort and has been among the most impressive drivers this year.

He is keeping his ambitions in check however, and is well aware that there are still seven races left before the end of the season.

"I don't think about that," he said when asked about his title hopes. "My goal was to be the fastest last year [2008-spec] car and it's still my goal.

"If I'm in front in more races then we'll see where we are towards the end of the season. But it [the championship] is not my first goal. Having the goal [to be the best driver of an older car] had worked out so far, so I will keep this as the goal."

Tomczyk said that he hoped his victory could lift the Phoenix team - which has run older-spec A4s ever since paring-up with Audi - to a new level.

"I promised them I would do all I could to get a victory before the season started, and we have managed it in the third race, so now we want more and I think we can get more maybe.

"It's an amazing moment for the team. They did no mistakes all weekend. This is a very good reward for them."
