Test 3: Schneider leads the way

The revised layout for this weekend's fourth round of the DTM at EuroSpeedway Lausitz saw the advantage shift to Mercedes-Benz ace Bernd Schneider, but Opel and Audi are right on his tail

Schneider lapped the traditional GP layout, without the banked Turn 1, in 1m40.017s, three-tenths faster than the surprise of the session, Jeroen Bleekemolen (Opel). The Dutchman had spun into the gravel early in the session, but was towed out and set a blistering pace that held the top spot for quite a while.

Peter Dumbreck, who won here in 2001, was third fastest for Opel, ahead of the leading Audi of Mattias Ekstrom. Alain Menu (Opel) was sixth quickest, but also spun into the gravel.

Laurent Aiello was seventh fastest on his return to the driving seat after a massive shunt at Turn 1 yesterday. He is now driving Martin Tomczyk's car - Christian Abt has taken over Peter Terting's and was 14th.
