Test 3: Albers sets new record

Erstwhile championship leader Christijan Albers proved he wants his top billing back by setting a new DTM lap record around the Norisring, the 24-year-old Dutchman becoming the first man to break the 49sec barrier on the 2.3km street circuit

Albers lapped his AMG Mercedes in 48.988s, just a few hundredths clear of Audi's Laurent Aiello and multiple champion Bernd Schneider (AMG Mercedes). Jean Alesi (AMG Merc) was fourth fastest, ahead of his team-mate Marcel Fassler.

Friday's star Peter Dumbreck was sixth fastest for Opel, ahead of Christian Abt (Audi), Joachim Winkelhock (Opel) and Mattias Ekstrom (Audi).
