Test 2: Albers back on top
Away from the crashes that have blunted Abt Sportsline's efforts, DTM points leader Christijan Albers set the pace for Mercedes in the second test session at EuroSpeedway Lausitz, but Opel was close behind
Alain Menu led the Opel charge with the second fastest lap, ahead of multiple champion Bernd Schneider (Mercedes). The earlier session pacesetter Peter Dumbreck (Opel) was fourth, but he concentrated on a long run in this period. Marcel Fassler made it three AMG Mercedes in the top five, while the fourth, ex-F1 star Jean Alesi, was lucky to get away with a worrying slide towards the wall at Turn 1. He was 13th.
Recent Mercedes recruit Gary Paffett was a sensational sixth fastest in his year-old CLK. Only 18 cars took part in the test, with no Aiello, Martin Tomczyk or Peter Terting out. Although yet to be confirmed, expect Abt Sportsline to juggle its top drivers into its working cars for the rest of the weekend.
