Scheider welcomes Spengler penalty
Timo Scheider believes that DTM officials were right to penalise Bruno Spengler after their collision at Hockenheim
Spengler had slowed with a power steering problem in the closing laps and, on the final lap, he went off track, enabling Martin Tomczyk to pass for second place.
Scheider attempted to do the same coming out of the Mercedes Arena, but he was tipped into a spin by Spengler's car.
Spengler held onto third place, although he was given a 50-second time penalty which dropped him down the finishing order.
"It is good when you penalise a driver like this," Scheider told autosport.com. "If we don't we will end up with driving that is too tough.
"The decision does not do any good for me because I lost third place, but when we have a situation like this we have to penalise people."
The German added that he accepts there will be some contact in touring car racing, but he believes that the DTM currently has a good standard of driving.
"I think we should have hard racing in the DTM, but not to the point where people just push people off, that's not nice." he said.
