Practice 3: Aiello heads flying Mucke

Heavy rain, then drizzle meant those who stayed out longest - or discovered the most outrageous line - found themselves on top of the timesheets after Saturday's DTM practice session at Adria. Laurent Aiello's Audi was fastest, but Mercedes rookie Stefan Mucke was a surprise second after reeling off a series of impressive laps in his 2000-spec Mercedes

With the Adria track offering little in the way of grip, use of the high-friction asphalt run-offs became de rigeur. Aiello did his time midway through the hour-long session, but Mucke and top Opel driver Alain Menu, in fourth, waited until the end to put in their best laps.

Marcel Fassler and wet weather maestro Jean Alesi made it three Mercs in the top five, with Opel young gun a confidence-boosting sixth.

The weather forecast predicts more showers in the Venice region, so qualifying for the afternoon's Top 10 Super Pole could prove something of a lottery.
