Helary back to Opel for Zandvoort
French tin-top ace Eric Helary will make a comeback to the DTM this weekend with Opel's Euroteam at Zandvoort
He will drive the car that ex-Formula 1 driver JJ Lehto raced in the last round at the A1-Ring, teaming up with Alain Menu.
"I'm simply overjoyed being able to drive a DTM Opel again," said Helary. "The DTM is a super racing series as the exciting race at the A1-Ring has once again shown. And I've been closely connected with Opel ever since my time in the French Touring Car Championship."
Lehto was ruled out of racing at the Dutch circuit after Cadillac, with whom he races in the American Le Mans Series, insisted that he stay in the US between last Sunday's Laguna Seca round and next week's Miami event. Lehto will also be commentating on the US Grand Prix for Finnish TV this weekend.
Helary last drove in the DTM back in 2000 when he was a full-time member of Opel's squad. He has had a seat fitting, but will not get a chance to drive the car before Friday's free practice sessions.
Opel has yet to announce who will drive the car for the Hockenheim season finale on October 6. Helary has a clashing French Super Tourisme race at Le Mans that weekend.
