Ex-F1 racer Timo Glock not yet ready for DTM title push

BMW driver Timo Glock admits he feels he is "still a step away" from being a title contender in the DTM

Glock has won two races since switching to the series from Formula 1 in 2013, one at the end of his first campaign, the other at Oschersleben last September.

After that victory he said switching off his F1 driving style had been a long process.

Having eventually finished 15th in last year's championship, ninth in 2013 remains Glock's best result, and he admits he still has work to do to challenge for a title.

"I don't believe I am there yet," he said.

"I have been too inconsistent for that in my first three years. I must still take this step.

"It is difficult, and there are a lot of drivers in the same position, who cannot quite explain why the consistency is there one minute, then gone the next.

"It is nice to have won two races, and to have finished on the podium four times.

"However, I am still a step away from challenging for the championship.

"The important thing for me this season is to finish in the points more consistently. That has to be my goal."

Glock moves from BMW's MTEK squad to RMG for his fourth season in the DTM, where he will partner 2014 champion Marco Wittmann.

The pair entered the series together as rookies with MTEK in 2013.

"That was an exciting year, as it was BMW Team MTEK's first season in the DTM - just as it was for Marco and me," Glock said.

"However, this is another aspect that made the switch to BMW Team RMG easier for me: I know Marco, and know how he works.

"He has obviously come on in leaps and bounds over the past two years, and I am looking forward to our next season together."
