Ekstrom unconcerned by testing pace
Two-time DTM champion Mattias Ekstrom says he is not concerned by Audi's lack of pace in comparison to Mercedes in last week's final pre-season test at Hockenheim
Mercedes topped the times at the German track with Paul di Resta, while the only Audis to get near the Scot's pace were the fleet of 2008 cars.
Despite the apparent lack of pace from the 2009 A4, Ekstrom believes the tests at Hockenheim and Dijon were productive.
"Maybe the times were not what we wished for, but we did everything we wanted to do," Ekstrom told this week's AUTOSPORT. "We got through the joblist we had.
"In testing, your result depends on what your focus is. We are still learning every time we go out on the track, I have to admit."
The Swede added that Audi needs to forget about the laptimes from the tests and work with the data it obtained to make sure it is on the pace when the series kicks off next weekend.
"It's not like we've started on a level we can't improve from," he said. "We've improved quite a lot already, so we just need to stay focused and not put too much priority on laptimes.
"We collected all the info we wanted, and you have to get the work done to find a good base set-up for the rest of the year."
