DTM to get British TV coverage

The all-new German Touring Car series is due to hit British TV screens on Channel 4, starting on 15 June. The deal involves nine 50-minute programmes which will feature as part of the Channel 4 motorsport magazine Chequered Flag

The tin-top category is clearly held in high regard as head of Channel 4 sport Dave Kerr views the series as an asset to the station. He said:"The addition of one of Europe's most important series brings a real touch of class."

The deal was struck by BHP the company that puts together the coverage for the British Touring Car and British Rally Championships. BHP boss Steve Saint said: "It's a series that deserves a terrestrial TV slot and it can only go from strength to strength. The quality of the TV coverage is excellent."

The programme will be presented by Touring Car stalwart Will Hoy, who will also be one half of the commentary team along with Channel 4 regular Steve Slater.

A distinctly British slant will run through the coverage, concentrating on Brits Darren Turner, James Thompson and Peter Dumbreck, Mercedes drivers Turner and Dumbreck featuring in the first show. Dumbreck said: "I was hoping there be some [television coverage] but it's an added bonus that the series will be on terrestrial TV, because there is a much bigger audience.

Coverage from the first round at Hockenheim will be broadcast on Friday 15 June at 2.20am.
