DTM Hockenheim: Ex-F1 racer Paul di Resta takes pole position
Paul di Resta took his first DTM pole position since returning from Formula 1 as Mercedes came out on top in qualifying for race two at Hockenheim
The British driver clocked 1.34.060s mid-way through the session, and he will start ahead of BMW's Augusto Farfus on the front row.
Mercedes have three of the top five qualifiers, with Gary Paffett starting third and Robert Wickens fifth, while BMW's Maxime Martin is between them in fourth.
Jamie Green was the highest Audi qualifier in 11th, more than 0.6s down on the marque's best time from Saturday's qualifying session, although it is carrying an additional 10kg in weight.
Race one winner Edoardo Mortara will line up next to Green in 12th, while race one pole sitter Nico Mueller starts 15th.
Di Resta's time, 0.097s quicker than his qualifying time for race one, was 0.126s faster than Farfus in another tight qualifying session where the top 22 drivers were within a second of each other.
Mercedes' newcomer Esteban Ocon was top for the first part of the session until di Resta went faster, and he will start seventh.
Audi's Mattias Ekstrom, who is hoping for a double victory this weekend after his success in the World Rallycross Championship, starts 20th alongside team-mate Adrien Tambay.
Mercedes' Lucas Auer ended the session in the gravel trap again after he lost control at Turn 1, just 24 hours after he spun in practice two.
