Joey Hand will have a new chassis for this weekend's DTM race at the Norisring after his original one suffered fire damage during last week's Lausitz test

BMW's Joey Hand gets new chassis for Norisring after test fire

The exhaust in Hand's M3 DTM, which was being driven by reserve driver Marco Wittmann at the test, was set alight after his car developed a fuel leak. Although much of the car was undamaged, the chassis is beyond repair.

"This has not affected our preparations for the race," said BMW motorsport director Jens Marquardt.

"The car in question developed a leak in the fuel supply during the roll-out. The escaping fuel then ignited in the exhaust. Although some parts of the car can be reused, the chassis itself is no longer suitable for use in a race situation."

RMG driver Hand, who was not present at the test, lies 16th in the DTM points after finishing a career-best ninth at Spielberg last time out.
