Audi loses Mattias Ekstrom Norisring appeal but no winner declared

Audi has lost its appeal against Mattias Ekstrom's disqualification from his Norisring DTM victory earlier this month, but no race winner will now be declared

Audi loses Mattias Ekstrom Norisring appeal but no winner declared

The Swede was thrown out of the results for infringing parc ferme rules when water was poured into a pocket of his overalls by his father Bengt after the race.

An appeal by Audi's Abt Sportsline team was heard by a panel from German motorsport federation the DMSB in Frankfurt on Tuesday afternoon.

The panel agreed with the race stewards' original decision that Ekstrom had broken Article 44.1 of the DTM sporting regulations.

Audi Sport tweeted: "In the spirit of the sport, we respect the decision of the DMSB appeal court."

The panel declared that no advantage had been gained by Audi as a result of the events.

As a result, the race stewards' decision to move every other finisher up a spot in the results has been reversed.

Robert Wickens - who had initially inherited the victory after Ekstrom's disqualification - therefore drops to second in the results with no winner declared.
