Vauxhall top BTCC testing

Vauxhall leapfrogged their rivals in yesterday's BTCC test at Croft. The works Vectras ran fastest before the session was abandoned due to a rainstorm

Vauxhall's newboy Jason Plato ended the two day test fastest, eclipsing the best time of his team mate Yvan Muller from the previous day.

"It is great for me as today was the first real day's running I have had in the car," said Plato. "Obviously there is still a lot to do as we are still only scratching the surface of the car's potential at the moment, but it is a great result for Vauxhall to be on top both days."

On the second day, the Vauxhalls were split by the impressive Honda Accord of Dane Tom Kristensen, new to the series for 2000, who was a whisker slower than Plato.

Ford slipped a little, having been in the top three on both the previous tests, Anthony Reid finishing fourth fastest. Fifth was Matt Neal's privately-run Nissan Primera which has set stunning times over the winter.
