Vauxhall duo set for title showdown

Vauxhall ace Yvan Muller will head into the final round of the British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park tantalisingly close to clinching the title, but is refusing to celebrate until he has officially secured the championship

The Frenchman has a 29-point lead over his nearest rival, team-mate James Thompson, with just 35 points up for grabs in the two races at Oulton Park.

"I'm just going to try and do the same as always - score points," said Muller. "Oulton is usually a bit better for me than Donington Park, I like the circuit, so hopefully I can be lucky. Last year I was first and then tenth in the second race after some problems. We will just have to wait and see what happens this year; only time will tell."

Thompson overcame Muller in a final round showdown to win the championship last season and insists he will push his team-mate all the way, despite the substantial points gap.

"I'm not going to make it easy for Yvan, " said Thompson, "he is close but I'm going to make him work for it. There is still a chance that I could do it, so I'll be fighting all the way. If I look at it selfishly I need Yvan to have a disastrous race, but that wouldn't be good for Yvan or the team. He made it very hard for me last year and I intend to do the same for him."
