Team RAC switch to bio-fuel
Team RAC will run their MGs on environmentally friendly bio-fuels for the deciding rounds of this year's British Touring Car Championship
The switch is to take place prior to this weekend's Knockhill meeting.
Privateers Fiona Leggate and Jason Hughes are already running bio-ethanol fuelled cars, but Team RAC's decision marks the first time that a leading BTCC squad has moved away from conventional fuels.
The timing of the change is also noteworthy, as Team RAC's lead driver Colin Turkington is challenging Matt Neal for this year's title and currently sits 27 points behind with nine rounds remaining.
"This move by Team RAC is great testament to bio-fuel as I'm sure that it is not a decision which has been taken lightly due to Colin's current position in the championship," said BTCC supremo Alan Gow. "I congratulate them on taking this concept further."
"Our primary objective is to be the first ever touring car team to achieve a podium finish to showcase the potential of green fuel for our primary sponsor RAC," added team boss Dick Bennetts.
New operation Clyde Valley Racing recently announced their intention to enter a pair of bio-ethanol fuelled Chevrolet Lacettis in the 2007 BTCC.
