Rockingham praised after inaugural race
Competitors in the British Touring Car Championship have praised the Rockingham road course venue after the Northamptonshire track hosted its first ever rounds of the series last Sunday
Two action-packed races were won by Honda's Matt Neal and Vauxhall's Yvan Muller, and both drivers and team owners praised the circuit and its facilities after the event.
"It's a fantastic place," said MG's Warren Hughes. "The nature of the track makes for some great touring car racing, and it's exciting to drive too. The facilities are just mega. I can't fault the place - I just hope we come back here."
Rockingham has been given only a provisional slot on the 2004 calendar, as it is up against old favourite Knockhill in Scotland for the date on June 27 next year.
Series leader Yvan Muller was is no doubt as to which circuit he would rather race at: "110 percent we should continue to race here [Rockingham] next year."
Championship director Alan Gow commented: "[Rockingham] produced some really good racing and it has certainly gone up in my estimation. This obviously adds an extra element to the debate."
