Rockingham BTCC: Tom Ingram dominates free practice
Speedworks Motorsport driver Tom Ingram completed a clean sweep of fastest times in the two British Touring Car Championship practice sessions at Rockingham
Ingram recorded his fastest time in the morning's first practice, leading the way with a best lap of 1m22.995s in his Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis set midway through the first 40-minute session.
That left him three tenths of a second clear of Adam Morgan, although the Ciceley Racing driver improved his time in the final minutes of the session to finish 0.161 seconds shy of the session leader in his Mercedes A-Class.
Championship hopeful Ash Sutton was third fastest in his Team BMR Subaru Levorg, ahead of the Eurotech Honda Civic Type R of Jack Goff and AmD Tuning's Ant Whorton-Eales (Audi S3).
Ingram had briefly appeared in the top three of the second session only to be shoved down the order, but returned to the top of the timesheet inside the final 10 minutes of the session.
His lap of 1m23.277s knocked Goff off top spot and went unbeaten for the rest of the session.
"We're actually still far away from where we were [this morning]," said Ingram after the second practice session.
"The circuit actually seems to have taken a step back. For us here it's all about managing the tyres - it's such a hard place for them.
"Qualifying will be quicker than this but it still might not be as quick as [first] practice."
Ingram's FP2 effort also prevented a Civic 1-2-3 lockout in the session.
Goff held on to second in his Eurotech-run car, with factory Team Dynamics drivers Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal third and fourth in their respective Type Rs and both within two tenths of Ingram's session best.
Mat Jackson was fifth in his Motorbase Ford Focus, ahead of Aiden Moffat (Mercedes A-Class) Whorton-Eales, Morgan and Jason Plato - who was fastest of the factory Subaru Levorgs in the second session.
Team-mate Sutton set the 16th fastest time in FP2, four places ahead of points leader Colin Turkington.
Northern Irishman Turkington was 0.647s off the pace, having earlier finished FP1 in 13th in his WSR BMW 125i M Sport.
The second session was stopped briefly when Stewart Lines went off after the right-hand Chapman Curve 10 minutes in.
Lines stopped short of finding the Pif Paf gravel trap and, after help from the recovery crew to get back on track, returned unaided to the pits.
