Peugeot sticks with two; Goodwin in the frame

Peugeot will continue to field only two cars in this year's British Touring Car Championship in the immediate future, although Chris Goodwin could be in the frame to drive its third car later in the season

Goodwin attended last week's official Donington test, but didn't get to drive its BTC Touring 406 Coupe due to administration problems outside the team's control. But, on the eve of the third round of the series at Oulton Park this weekend, Peugeot's UK motorsport boss Mick Linford has said the team's first priority is to catch series pacesetters Vauxhall.

"We're preoccupied with getting our cars on the pace at the moment," said Linford. "So there's nothing to say on the subject of a third driver, although we are talking to people. After all, working on two cars is better than three. Because of all the work we did at Donington, we hope to have a much better platform to work from this weekend, but we won't know until the first practice session at Oulton."

Linford admitted that Goodwin - who has raced in the BTCC and British GTs, and used to pilot McLaren's F1 two-seater - could yet be involved in the programme.

"Chris came to the Donington test, and our intent was to put him in the car, but that didn't happen for one reason or another. He may well get a run in it at a later date, because he's got a tremendous amount of experience in developing cars. As for a race seat, that would be subject to budgets," he added.
