Onslow-Cole out to close gap on Plato
Tom Onslow-Cole says he will take an all-or-nothing approach to this weekend's British Touring Car Championship round at Donington Park as he bids to keep his title hopes alive
The Arena Ford driver lies third in the championship, 24 points behind leader Jason Plato and four adrift of Honda driver Matt Neal.
He believes he must maximise every opportunity this weekend in a bid to take points off the Chevrolet driver ahead of the Brands Hatch season finale.
"Twenty four points is a manageable target with six races left, but I can't afford to be that far behind by the end of the weekend," said Onslow-Cole.
"I've simply got to gain ground on him to be in with a shout at Brands Hatch."
Onslow-Cole, 23, has fond memories of Donington, having taken his maiden BTCC pole position there as a Vauxhall driver in 2008.
He believes that the nature of the circuit will suit his LPG-powered Focus ST much better than Knockhill, where he managed just a single podium finish in the reversed grid race two weeks ago.
"There is the long back straight which will be good for us, but our chassis has been developed a lot too so we will be fast around the corners as well," he added.
"As a package we'll be strong there, so I'm optimistic of getting onto the top step of the podium."
