Onslow-Cole confident of fighting at the front in 2013 BTCC season
British Touring Car race winner Tom Onslow-Cole believes he can challenge at the front in 2013 after signing to drive one of Tony Gilham's new NGTC Volkswagen Passats
Onslow-Cole rejoined WSR this year and took sixth in the drivers' table with one of the squad's S2000 BMWs.
But he has now confirmed he will race on of Gilham's two NGTC VW Passat CCs, which are currently in build, and believes the package is capable of running at the front.
"The prospect of working on a new car with this team is very exciting," the 25-year-old told AUTOSPORT. "It's a team that can challenge for the championship.
"The design of an NGTC isn't quite as complex as an S2000 so it makes it more of a level playing field.
"I had a good season with WSR - the decision wasn't taken lightly - but the future ambitions of this team made it difficult to say no.
"The biggest appeal is the vision Tony has with the team."
Gilham, who is planning to run two NGTC Vauxhall Insignias and an S2000 Honda Civic alongside the Passats in 2013, believes Onslow-Cole's experience can help the team.
"We were keen to get a race winner and he's a good development driver," said Gilham.
"He's also very marketable and this is a multi-year deal."
