Motorbase signs Jackson and Kane

Mat Jackson and Steven Kane will race for Motorbase Performance in the British Touring Car Championship this season

The pair will each drive a BMW 320si for David Bartrum's Kent-based squad, which will again run under the Airwaves BMW.

Jackson, who finished as BTCC runner-up in a BMW run by his family Jacksons MSport team in 2008, moves back to rear-wheel drive machinery after a year in an RML Chevrolet last season.

"It's fantastic to be back in a BMW," said Jackson, 28. "It would be an understatement to say that exciting times lie ahead. I feel this could be a great partnership - all of the team have the same focus and mine is no different: to win."

Kane scored three podium finishes in his rookie BTCC campaign with Motorbase in 2008, but did not race in the series last year due to budgetary issues, and instead performed the role of development driver for both the Formula 2 Championship and for Chad Racing in Belgian touring cars.

The former McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award winner is confident that both he and Jackson can challenge for the title this season.

"I tested the car at the end of last year, back at Brands, and its very clear the team, and car, have moved on," Kane said.

"I have great respect for David and I think he has really put a great team together - with Mat, I will have a fantastic team-mate and I'm sure we will form a good partnership both on and off the track. This will enable both of us to have a real good shout for the title!"

Motorbase finished fourth in last year's BTCC teams' championship with Rob Collard and Jonathan driving for the team.
