MG's Josh Cook sets Donington Park BTCC practice pace

Triple Eight MG6 driver Josh Cook topped both British Touring Car Championship free practice sessions at Donington Park

The Bath racer put in two laps at the end of the second 40-minute period that would have put him top of the pile. His final benchmark was a 1m10.129s tour.

Cook, who led at Donington Park last season during only his second event in the BTCC, said: "I really enjoy this circuit and the MG has been really well balanced throughout all of the practice so far.

"This bodes well ahead of qualifying this afternoon."

Cook was 0.198 seconds clear of WSR BMW 125i M Sport ace Sam Tordoff, another to leave it to the very end of the two sessions to show his hand.

Brands Hatch race winner Tom Ingram was third in the Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis having topped the timesheets for much of the second period. His laptime was 1m10.377s.

Behind Aiden Moffat, factory Honda driver Gordon Shedden, carrying 66kg of success ballast into the meeting, recorded a best time that put him fifth at the end of session two in his Civic Type R.

Points leader Matt Neal, loaded with 75kg, put his Honda Civic Type R in 17th place.

The factory Subarus were 19th (Colin Turkington), 21st (Jason Plato), 23rd (James Cole) and 29th (Warren Scott).

Scott caused the second session to be interrupted midway through when he spun his Levorg model onto the grass at the exit of the Old Hairpin.
