MG extends BTCC factory deal with Triple Eight for three more years
MG Motor UK has committed to the British Touring Car Championship as a factory team for the next three seasons after extending its deal with Triple Eight Racing
The Chinese-owned firm re-entered the championship in 2012 with Triple Eight and has run the MG6 model since then.
It claimed the manufacturers-constructors' championship in 2014 with Jason Plato and Sam Tordoff behind the wheel.
Andrew Jordan and Jack Goff drove for the team this season and Goff took a win at Snetterton in August.
Triple Eight Racing boss Ian Harrison said that the team would field updated versions of the MG6 in the future.
"This year we saw an even more competitive BTCC and, while our drivers didn't always get the results hoped, we took small comfort in the fact we had a year of zero mechanical and electrical faults, which is rare in this business and is an example of the high standards that Triple Eight prides itself on," he said.
"There is an facelift for the MG6 which we will incorporate for 2016 and there will be some re-engineering under the skin with the new controlled parts supplied by RML.
"We will look at all of the updated parts, pick the ones that will benefit us and put them on the car."
Harrison said he was in talks with a number of drivers although no deals had yet been confirmed.
He also revealed that the squad would now be based at rival operation Team BMR's Hertfordshire workshops in the future and that the backroom staff across both outfits would have a "technical alliance".
Matthew Cheyne, head of sales and marketing for MG, added: "We are really excited to be renewing this partnership.
"The BTCC has given us the opportunity to give our brand some fantastic exposure, so we're thrilled to be continuing this for another three years.
"We have built up a strong relationship with Triple Eight during our four years together, so we're glad to be working with them again and look forward to developing a new team that will lead to more successes."
