MacDowall eyes RML Chevy seat

Alex MacDowall has set his sights on a British Touring Car Championship drive with RML after testing one of the squad's Chevrolet Lacettis at Jerez

The Renault Clio Cup runner-up lapped within 0.4 seconds of the time set by Alain Menu, who was out in a World Touring Car Championship Cruze also run by the squad.

"I thoroughly enjoyed our two days at Jerez and working with everyone at RML was an absolute pleasure," said MacDowall.

"I sincerely hope now that a deal can be done that will allow me to drive for them in 2010."

MacDowall, 18, had previously tested a Motorbase BMW at Brands Hatch, and said that he was pleased to be able to draw a comparison between the two.

"The Lacetti itself is very quick in a straight line, handles well through the corners and gives you a lot of confidence to push hard. Having now tested a rear-wheel drive BMW and the front-wheel drive Lacetti, we have plenty of food for thought for next year."
