Knockhill BTCC: Gordon Shedden takes win for Honda at home

Gordon Shedden claimed a comfortable home victory in the second British Touring Car Championship race at Knockhill

The local hero passed polesitter Mat Jackson in the early stages of the race and managed a safety-car restart with ease to eventually win by over three seconds.

Shedden got ahead of Jackson's Motorbase Ford by virtue of a superb run through the chicane on lap five, and dived by into Clark's Curve before going on to build a lead of almost five seconds before half-distance.

Stewart Lines' stranded Houseman Toyota Avensis required a safety-car clear-up though, which meant Shedden's Honda Civic Type-R soon had Jackson for company again.

At the restart, though, the Scot was untroubled - and streaked clear again to claim his third win of the season.

His nearest challenger, 3.4s back, was race-one winner Rob Collard, who passed Rob Austin and Rob Collard in the final third of the race.

Collard moved into third when Austin ran wide at the chicane and briefly skittered across the gravel in his Audi A4, then passed Jackson on the run down to the hairpin with three laps remaining.

Austin fell to sixth with his off, allowing Andrew Jordan to take a hard-earned fourth in his MG, having defended well from Andy Priaulx's WSR BMW in the closing stages.

Three-time world champion Priaulx made steady progress from the fifth row to end up fifth, with Austin not far off the 125i M Sport's bumper as they crossed the line.

Jason Plato's race-one strategy of not taking up his proper grid slot yielded a ninth-place start, and he rose to seventh by the flag.

His progress was aided by Team BMR team-mate Colin Turkington retiring.

The reigning champion was defending sixth from Priaulx early on when the BMW man went to the outside of the final hairpin, and Turkington sustained left-rear suspension damage when he moved across exiting the corner and clouted the WSR driver.

Matt Neal had a quiet run to eighth, harrying Plato all the way in the second Honda, while Aiden Moffat drove well to claim ninth on home soil ahead of Adam Morgan in the similar Ciceley-built Mercedes A-Class.
