Ferrier to return as stand-in for Harvey...

Touring car young gun Tom Ferrier is to return to the British Touring Car Championship for the next round at Knockhill on the back of notching up his best result of the season so far with a fifth place in the ETC at the Hungaroring on Sunday

Ferrier raced to finish fifth in the Super Production class of the European Touring Car Championship behind Per Andersson, after starting the sixth round of the series from a disappointing 12th on the grid. But the 20-year-old will take encouragement from his race performance as he heads for his second BTCC appearance this year with the JS Motorsport team.

"I was able to catch and pass people," said Ferrier of his Hungarian exploits. "A few people fell off in front of me and I chased Per down, but I couldn't find a way past. I really enjoyed it!"

But the young Englishman cannot expect his BTCC return to be all plain sailing as recurring engine problems continue to blight the Warwickshire-based squad.

Ferrier is no stranger to the JSM team's problems as he stood in for team manger-cum-driver Tim Harvey at the Thruxton round of the championship at the beginning of May, when Harvey was unable to drive due to a clash with his driving duties in the British GT championship. Harvey is on sportscar duty at Donington when the BTCC heads to Knockhill - cue Ferrier once again.

Ferrier outqualified his team mate Dave Pinkney and BTCC regular Kurt Luby to wind up seventh on the grid at Thruxton, but ran into engine problems in the sprint race and was unable to take the start of the feature event.

Similar problems meant there was only one JSM Alfa 147 present for Harvey at Donington this weekend and the 1992 BTCC Champion's engine did not last long enough for him to qualify for either the sprint or the feature race.
