Donington Park BTCC: Andrew Jordan triumphs in race two
Andrew Jordan won the second British Touring Car race at Donington Park to strengthen his bid for the overall title
The reigning Independents' champion made a good start but could not quite outdrag polesitter Gordon Shedden's works Honda Civic to lead.
Jordan's challenge had to be put on hold as a startline clash involving James Kaye and David Nye brought out the safety car.
At the restart, Jordan tracked and pressured the reigning champion and dived down the inside at Redgate to take the lead.
The Eurotech Honda then drove away as Jordan headed to his first victory of 2013.
Jason Plato's MG, which had driven around the outside of Matt Neal's works Civic down the Craner Curves to run third, then moved forward to challenge Shedden.
Their fight allowed Neal and Adam Morgan's Ciceley Racing Toyota Avensis to close and the four cars ran together for much of the race.
After several attempts, Plato got a good run out of Redgate with three laps to go to power past the Honda. He then closed on Jordan, but the Honda was still two seconds ahead at the flag.
Behind Shedden, Neal and Morgan, Sam Tordoff finally overcame a defensive Colin Turkington (WSR BMW) to finish sixth in his MG6, chased by Dave Newsham's Speedworks Toyota.
Aron Smith's Motorbase Ford Focus also made it by Turkington to finish eighth, while Tom Onslow-Cole completed the top 10 in Team Hard's new VW Passat, and will start on pole for the reversed-grid race.
After a startline crash, the S2000 field was further reduced by an off for Warren Scott and problems for Liam Griffin and Joe Girling.
That left Lea Wood to win the Jack Sears Trophy as the only class finisher.
