Donington feature: Morrison's first win

From sixth on the grid, Morrison picked his way through a chaotic couple of opening laps, avoiding numerous collisions between those ahead - most of which involved Muller. He attacked second placed Matt Neal (Egg Vauxhall) for second at the Esses on the opening lap but took a hit from his opponent on the exit which sent him into a big slide.

Muller dropped to sixth and his attempt to pass Paul O'Neill's Egg Astra on the following lap at the Esses broke the steering of his Vauxhall Motorsport car, forcing him into the pits and out of the race.

Andy Priaulx, meanwhile, steered his Honda Civic ahead of Neal to take the lead, but he was soon caught by team-mate Morrison, who pitted first. By the time Priaulx stopped, he was struggling with an intermittent electrical fault, and rejoined well behind Morrison in second. Priaulx's car then died for a couple of seconds on lap 19, dropping him to sixth, before it lurched back into life again.

Warren Hughes, like Morrison, steered clear of the early action to finish a clear second, but Neal dropped out of a dead-cert third when his car ground to a halt with engine failure on lap 24. Third place was battled over by new champion Thompson and a recovering Priaulx, with Thommo just getting the verdict by half a car length.

Morrison said: "It's great to get one at the end. The car didn't miss a beat - I'm delighted. The first few laps was like bumper cars in my mirrors. I got a great start, made a few good passes and then just sat behind Andy. We were pulling away, so I decided to let it go and wait for the pit window."

Carl Breeze scored his first Independents' Cup victory of the season in his VLR-run Peugeot 406, but team-mate Dan Eaves took the title.

Norman Simon won the Production class in his BMW, getting the better of a great scrap with new champion James Kaye's Honda Civic. Gavin Pyper's Alfa Romeo finished third.
